Dr. Bec Dean

Biography

Bec Dean is a curator, writer, educator and consultant with a background in photomedia and performance art. She has recently completed a PhD at the University of New South Wales, Art and Design, Australia. She has worked for multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary contemporary arts organisations in Australia since 1996 and has been curating interdisciplinary and experimental exhibitions and producing events for two decades. She was Associate Director of Performance Space, Sydney from 2007-2012, and Co-Director and CEO from 2012-2014. She was Curator at Australian Centre for Photography from 2005 – 2007 and Gallery Manager at PICA from 2001 – 2005. She worked for the National Institute of Experimental Arts (UNSW) on The Big Anxiety festival in 2017. Her recent independent curatorial project, The Patient: The Medical Subject in Contemporary Art (2016-2018) has just finished touring. Bec is the presenter of The Constellations, a podcast program on interdisciplinary arts produced by DLUX Media Arts and FBi Radio.

Bec is the chair of the award-winning PYT | Fairfield, and DLUX Media Arts and is the lead curator of the next Cementa Festival, Kandos. She is a board member of Branch Nebula and the Parramatta Female Factory Precinct Inc.
