Dr. Katve-Kaisa Kontturi

Biography

Dr Katve-Kaisa Kontturi is an art theorist and curator, with a focus on the relational materialities of art and the body. Her research interests and topics of publications spread across process philosophies, new materialist methodologies, contemporary art, (collective) practices of making, activism, craft, fashion and fabrics. She currently works as a McKenzie postdoctoral fellow in the Victorian College of the Arts, the University of Melbourne (project: Affective Fabrics of Contemporary Art: Stitching Global Relations, 2014-2017). Katve-Kaisa is a member of the Australian hub of the international Immediations project, led by Anna Munster, and of which NIEA is an institutional partner. She’s also a founding member of the European New Materialist network, co-chairs its Creative Arts working group (COST action New Materialism IS1307, 2014-2018) and co-convenes Matters of the Body research cluster at the Faculty of VCA & MCM, the University of Melbourne. Previously, she’s held visiting fellowships at SenseLab, Montréal, Finnish-African Cultural Institute Villa Karo, Benin, UC Berkeley, and University of Sydney.
