Dr Andrew Yip researches the applications for interactive digital environments and emerging new media technologies in the gallery and museum sector. In a new partnership with the Art Gallery of NSW, he joined the Laboratory for Innovation in Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (iGLAM) as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in 2014.

Between 2010 and 2014 Andrew held the position of Coordinator of Public Programs at the Art Gallery of NSW, where he managed adult programs and tertiary education. He has worked widely on digital engagement projects as a writer and producer of apps and documentaries for exhibition and collection engagement.

Andrew’s art historical research focuses on the politics of war in visual culture and his current work concerns the visualisation of the war on terror in interactive new media, especially through video game systems. He has written for numerous gallery publications, contemporary art journals and peer-reviewed art history journals. He is co-curator of the forthcoming AGNSW archive and collection exhibitions Hidden War: stories from the trenches in the National Art Archive and Mad through the darkness: Australian artists and the Great War (2015) and is co-editor of the forthcoming book The Multiple Legacies of Bernard Smith (2016).

At iGLAM Andrew’s research projects include work on in-gallery interactive archive visualisation, ultra high-resolution collection documentation and experimental didactic development, visitor experience data collection and interpretation and the application of embodied visualisation environments.
