Dan Hill, designer and urbanist presents the first lecture in NIEA's innovation series alongside the Australian premiere screening of Chinese artist Miao Xiaochun's video installation Microcosm at this special NIEA launch event.
About Dan Hill:
Dan Hill has been working at the forefront of innovative information and communication technologies (ICT) since the early ‘90s. He is currently a senior consultant for multinational design consultancy Arup, exploring the possibilities of urban informatics from a creative, design-led perspective, re-thinking how real-time information networks change streets and cities, neighbourhoods and organisations, mobility and work, play and public space. As Head of Interactive Technology & Design at the BBC in London, Dan Hill led design across their award winning websites. He writes for City of Sound, one of the leading urbanism websites.
About Miao Xiaochun:
Miao Xiaochun is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans from photography to new media. His works often depict vast cityscapes of contemporary China, offering visions of a new era. He was born in China and studied at Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing where he currently teaches. He also attended the Kunsthochschule in Kassel, Germany. Miao's works have been exhibited extensively worldwide in biennales and major exhibitions such as the 2005 Guangzhou Photo International Biennale, the 2008 Busan Biennale, Thermocline of Art - New Asian Waves, Mahjong: Contemporary Chinese Art, at the Le Grand Palais in France, Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo in Brazil, and the Cincinnati Art Museum in Ohio.
